What is neurosurgery?
Surgical care for the brain, spine and nervous system
Neurosurgery covers the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Modern neurosurgery draws on a wide range of techniques — from minimally invasive keyhole surgery and the operating microscope to neuro-endoscopy and advanced implants such as adjustable shunts and spinal fixation devices — guided by imaging including CT, MRI, angiography, EEG and nerve conduction studies.
